My Philosophy of Piano Instruction
All students are treated as individuals from the first time I hear them play. Piano sound is directly influenced by the way the piano is touched and this, in turn, is unique to every individual. I am already planning how to taylor my instruction to the individual's needs at the first meeting.
Guiding Principles
- The notes and the music are not the same thing.
- Technique and interpretation are the same thing.
- Practicing is practical, which means it is 100% goal oriented.
- Hard work is never in vain.
Approach to Technique
I teach the basics of technique derived from Beethoven-Czerny-Liszt and passed down from both Arthur Schnabel and the Russian School. This approach places emphasis on freedom from tension and development of a light speedy touch.
